If you’ve never made stained glass before, you might not be aware of the intense work and creativity that’s required to turn a vision into a reality. Between the cutting, grinding, foiling, and soldering, a dedicated space is required to work freely and safely.

Luckily, there are a number of 55+ communities throughout Florida that offer stained glass studios as an amenity. Artisans who are looking to buy a home in Florida can set up some studio space in one of these active adult communities.

Sun City CenterSun City Center, FL

Below $100k – Mid $500s

The stained glass art studio at Sun City Center is just one of the amenities aimed to attract adults who love to create. There’s also a movement studio and a space dedicated to pottery. Residents can work on their ongoing stained glass projects or start something new, and they can do so surrounded by friends and neighbors.

This is a social community for 55+ residents, and it’s a popular place for both snowbirds and full-time residents looking to enjoy a Florida retirement. There’s a long list of social engagements, including stained glass classes and art clubs. Also, Sun City Center is about half an hour south of Downtown Tampa.

Dozens of floor plans are available as attached villas and single-family homes. There are 9,500 resale homes in Sun City Center, and the golf cart-friendly neighborhood is an excellent place to establish some roots and make new friends. Buyers can choose a home with two to four bedrooms and 1,503 to 3,086 square feet.

Kings PointSun City Center, FL

Below $100k – Low $300s 

Just across the street from Sun City Center is Kings Point, another popular 55+ community that’s full of action and includes a stained glass studio. Amenities and activities are often shared by both communities, adding to the potential of meeting new people and gathering inspiration for stained glass work.

Resale attached villas and single-family homes are available in Kings Point. This gated community is known for its strict enforcement of the 15 mph speed limit, designed to accommodate golf cart traffic. 

The stained glass studio is found in the South Clubhouse, where there’s also a pottery studio, an art gallery, a fitness center, and a spa. Additional amenities throughout Kings Point include a woodworking shop, a lapidary studio, card and billiards rooms, pickleball courts, pools, and fitness centers. Residents enjoy shuffleboard and tennis as well as basketball and volleyball. A stained glass club meets regularly, and members are also drawn to the sewing club, painting classes, and meditation workshops.

Wynmoor VillageCoconut Creek, FL

Below $100k – Mid $200s

The stained glass studio at Wynmoor Village in Coconut Creek on Florida’s Atlantic Coast is a great place to get together with neighbors to create beautiful things. This 55+ community also has a woodworking shop, an arts and crafts studio, a ceramics studio, a stone and clay studio, and a painting studio.

A public 18-hole golf course is part of Wynmoor Village, and residents enjoy deep discounts on greens fees and cart rentals. Residents can gather at the lecture hall for discussions and events, and there are three ballrooms and a business center. There are also 20 pools, shuffleboard and pickleball courts, and a picnic area.

Wynmoor Village is a community of resale condos in mid-rise buildings with elevators and security. Residents enjoy views of the golf course, lake, or well-landscaped gardens. The homes offer one to three bedrooms, one to two-and-a-half bathrooms, plenty of parking, and 550 to over 1,250 square feet. Many homes feature upgrades such as remodeled bathrooms, self-closing cupboards in the kitchen, and quartz or granite counters. Residents are just minutes from Interstate 95 and a short drive from the beach.

Highland Lakes on Lake TarponPalm Harbor, FL

Below $100k – Low $300s

An entire Arts & Crafts Building is available to residents at Highland Lakes on Lake Tarpon, a 55+ community in Palm Harbor, close to the Gulf of Mexico. This artist-friendly space includes a stained glass studio as well as a space for ceramics, arts and crafts, and woodworking. There’s also a computer room and a lapidary studio.

At the Lake Tarpon Lodge, the amenities get even better, with a pool, a picnic area, pontoon boats, and horseshoe pits. A 27-hole executive golf course and a putting green are also available to residents. 

Attached villas are available as resale low-maintenance properties with one or two bedrooms, one-and-a-half or two bathrooms, and an attached one- or two-car garage. Buyers can also select a single-family home, which will be on a single floor with two or three bedrooms, one or two full bathrooms and a half bathroom, and an attached one- or two-car garage. Palm Harbor is a pleasant, close-knit community that’s less than an hour from Tampa and close to Clearwater

Century Village EastDeerfield Beach, FL

Below $100k – Mid $200s

Buyers looking for Deerfield Beach homes for sale that inspire stained glass work should consider Century Village East, a 55+ community with a number of art studios. Residents can work on their stained glass projects and also enjoy a music room and a photography studio. There’s also an arts and crafts studio, a ceramics studio, a sewing studio, a clay room, and a lapidary studio.

Homeowners can also enjoy pools, a fitness center with a sauna, shuffleboard courts, horseshoe pits, and volleyball. Community transit makes this neighborhood an ideal selection for anyone who doesn’t love to drive.

More than 8,500 resale condo units are spread out between buildings with two to four floors. These homes are great for downsizing and low-maintenance living. They have one or two bedrooms, one to two bathrooms, and between 650 and 1,100 square feet. Eight floor plans are available, featuring patio or balcony space, open floor plans, and large closets.
