If you don’t yet qualify for a 55+ or even a 40+ active adult community, there are several Phoenix area communities with no age restrictions. If you retire early or want a vacation home prior to a full retirement in Arizona, then there are a number of attractive communities to choose from.

If you retire early or want a vacation home prior to a full retirement in Arizona, then there are a number of attractive communities to choose from. Several of them are in Scottsdale while others are in Wickenburg, Rio Verde, and Chandler, but all are within driving distance of Downtown Phoenix.

Here’s a selection of Phoenix area communities with no age restrictions.

Trilogy at Wickenburg Ranch – Wickenburg, AZ

Trilogy at Wickenburg Ranch is in Wickenburg, a small town with a population of about 8,000 people. It’s a gated community with no age restriction, and it has 2,000 single-family homes. Wickenburg is a 75-minute drive northwest of Downtown Phoenix, and it’s a place that will appeal to those who want to surround themselves with Arizona’s beautiful mountain and desert landscapes.

Amenities here include both an 18-hole and a 9-hole golf course, a fitness center, a day spa, an outdoor pool, a sports complex, and courts for tennis, pickleball, and bocce ball. There are also a number of clubs, classes, and activities for residents to enjoy, including art classes, cooking classes, guided hikes, and holiday parties.

There are a number of home models available here with the smallest being 1,210 square feet. These have one bedroom, a den/second bedroom, two bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage. The largest home models offer 3,124 square feet, three bedrooms, a den/fourth bedroom, three-and-a-half bathrooms, and a three-car garage.

Terravita – Scottsdale, AZ

Low $700ks – Mid $1Ms

Terravita is a gated community located in Scottsdale, and it has no age restriction. Scottsdale is one of the most affluent and upscale cities in the Greater Phoenix Area. It’s about a 40-minute drive from both Downtown Scottsdale and Downtown Phoenix, and it’s on the northern edge of the metropolitan area surrounded by desert and outdoor recreational opportunities.

Many activities take place in the 9,000-square-foot clubhouse, which has a library and a hobby and game room. In addition to this, all residents belong to the Terravita Golf and Country Club, and a monthly fee covers all activities except for golf on the 18-hole course. There’s a restaurant, a snack bar, and an outdoor pool with a grill. There’s also a fitness center, six tennis courts, an aerobics and dance studio, and a spin bike studio.

Models here are on the generous side with even the smallest homes providing 1,384 square feet, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a two-car garage. There are several models with over 3,000 square feet; the largest being 3,730 square feet with three bedrooms, a den, three-and-a-half bathrooms, and a three-car garage.

Trilogy at Verde River – Rio Verde, AZ

Trilogy at Verde River is a gated community with no age restriction, and it has 1,285 single-family homes. Rio Verde is the name of the whole planned community development, and it’s at the northeastern edge of the Phoenix urban area, surrounded by desert and mountain views. Downtown Phoenix is almost an hour’s drive away, while several outdoor recreational areas including the 21,000-acre McDowell Mountain Regional Park are only about 20 minutes away.

Amenities here include an 18-hole golf course, a putting green, a ballroom, a spa, two pools with a poolside bar and grill, a hot tub, a fitness center, several eating places, an arts and crafts studio, and courts for tennis, bocce ball, and pickleball.

Models start at 1,544 square feet with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage. There are several models around 2,000 square feet, and the largest go up to 3,287 square feet. These have three bedrooms, a den/fourth bedroom, three-and-a-half bathrooms, and a three-car garage.

Scottsdale Shadows – Scottsdale, AZ

Scottsdale Shadows is a gated community with 838 condos and no age restriction. It’s in Scottsdale, just a five-minute drive from downtown for those who want to be very much a part of the urban scene. Downtown Phoenix is a 30-minute drive away, while Camelback Park, a waterfront park with a walking/cycling track, is across the street.

Scottsdale Shadows also has its own amenities, which are impressive for a smaller community. They include three outdoor pools, a spa, separate men’s and women’s fitness centers, a 9-hole golf course, a sauna, two tennis courts, a number of arts and crafts studios, and hiking and biking trails.

Condos start at 850 square feet with one bedroom, one bathroom, and underground parking for one car. The largest condos are 2,352 square feet, and these have four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and one parking space.
