Southeast Florida represents nearly all the things people think about when they imagine what a Florida retirement would look like. Warm winters, attractive golf courses, the rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean: It has everything, including affordable housing.

We took a look at some of the best homes for sale in Delray Beach, Boca Raton, and several other Southeast Florida cities. Buyers will want to explore these 55+ communities if they’re seeking comfortable homes, inviting amenities, and a lower-than-average price tag.

1. The Pines of Delray – Delray Beach, FL

Below $100K – High $100s

Close to the beach, great golfing, and a lot of shops and restaurants, The Pines of Delray is a gated 55+ community that makes sense for budget-minded buyers, whether they’re seeking a full-time Florida retirement home or a part-time seasonal destination. Many residents take advantage of the lock-and-leave lifestyle, which offers little to worry about maintenance-wise since the HOA takes care of landscaping and exterior property care. There are 684 condos and attached villas in this community as well as two clubhouses and a host of amenities.

Both clubhouses have heated outdoor pools and fitness centers. Residents can also use either clubhouse for shuffleboard, bocce ball, and multi-purpose rooms. There’s tennis, a list of exercise classes, and a social committee that gets together monthly to plan community events and parties.

The resale villas offer 982 to 1,167 square feet with two bedrooms and one or two bathrooms. The condos are 812 to 1,600 square feet with one to three bedrooms and one or two bathrooms. Formal dining rooms, spacious closets, and patio space in the backyard are available in most properties.

2. Lakes of Carriage Hills – Tamarac, FL

Below $100K – Low $100s

Condos at Lakes of Carriage Hills are between 990 and 1,460 square feet with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. They offer plenty of space, especially for the price, and these Southeast Florida homes for sale come with open floor plans, modern eat-in kitchens, huge closets and extra storage, and details like solid wood cabinetry and upgraded appliances. These resale units are in 12 three-story buildings, all with elevators.

Plenty of amenities are available in this gated 55+ community. There’s a clubhouse with a multi-purpose room, a library, and space for billiards. There’s also a pool, a patio, three tennis courts, and two shuffleboard courts. Residents enjoy garden space as well as various ponds throughout the community.

Tamarac is ideally located right off the Florida Turnpike and about half an hour from Fort Lauderdale. Active adults who love nature will appreciate this community’s proximity to Fern Forest Nature Center and Hampton Pines Park, where there’s great fishing.

3. Century Village at Boca Raton – Boca Raton, FL

Below $100K – High $200s

A Boca Raton address is usually a sign of swank and top-dollar Palm Beach County real estate, but it doesn’t have to be about all that. Affordable condos can be found in Century Village at Boca Raton, a gated 55+ community with a long list of amenities and one of the most desirable locations in Southeast Florida.

It’s a large community, with 7,500 condo units in buildings with two to four floors. Elevators and security can be found in each building. Homes have 601 to 1,563 square feet and one or two bedrooms with one or two bathrooms. There’s plenty of parking available to residents.

The amenities start at the clubhouse, which is 125,000 square feet. There, residents will find a fitness center, aerobics studio, indoor pool, and game room. Artsy buyers will appreciate the ceramic space and art studio. There’s also a party room, a performance center, and a library as well as computer labs and classrooms. Outdoor amenities include a main pool and 13 satellite pools, tennis courts, shuffleboard courts, and bocce ball courts. There’s also a putting green and plenty of trails and paths that wind along lakes and ponds. Community transit is available, and residents will find dozens of clubs, special interest groups, and activities available at Century Village at Boca Raton.

4. Hollybrook Golf and Tennis Club – Pembroke Pines, FL

Below $100K – High $100s

Buyers looking for Broward County homes for sale within a country club atmosphere will love the attractive condos and the resort-like amenities at Hollybrook Golf and Tennis Club in Pembroke Pines. Golfers will enjoy the 18-hole championship course, and anyone new to the game can test the waters at the par-three course, which also has 18 holes. There are seven pools and seven pool houses, 14 tennis courts, and four pickleball courts. Other amenities include a clubhouse and a restaurant, a fitness center, a library, a card room, and a playhouse that hosts 700 people. Guest speakers, movies, and performances are frequently held, and residents enjoy club and social activities year-round.

Condos are available as resale units in one- and two-bedroom models, with one or two bathrooms and between 800 and 1,573 square feet. Patios or balconies come with each home, as well as walk-in closets and large living rooms. This gated, 55+ community is close to beaches and shopping, and it’s only a 30-minute drive from Miami.

5. The Grove – Boynton Beach, FL

High $100s – High $200s

Active adults looking for single-family homes that aren’t prohibitively expensive can consider a 55+ community like The Grove in Boynton Beach. Resale houses in the Manor collection offer 1,520 to 1,780 square feet, and in the Estates collection, homes offer 1,860 and 2,343 square feet. Most models have features like dens, high ceilings, and open floor plans. They have attached two-car garages and either two or three bedrooms. There are also attached cottage homes available with 1,508 to 1,840 square feet.

Amenities at The Grove include a social lounge, exercise room, aerobics studio, and a library with computers. There’s an outdoor pool and spa, tennis courts, shuffleboard, and plenty of trails and paths that are perfect for walking, jogging, or biking. Residents enjoy a rich social life with their neighbors, participating in activities like a technology club, computer club, and dancing lessons.

Boynton Beach is a great place for water lovers to live. Boynton Inlet is a peaceful lagoon connecting to the Atlantic, and Gulfstream Park is a popular place for swimming, boating, and fishing.
